We’re confident that you’re a handy-dandy do-it-yourselfer, so that’s why we’re always happy and willing to give you some great tips on how to fix little plumbing issues that may pop up now and then within your own home.

Here are some tips that can help you to deal with a clogged toilet within your home. All you may have to do is pour some dish soap into the bowl and some hot water down after it, get your drains free again. You may be able to fix your blocked toilet in about 15 short minutes.

First, you have to heat a gallon of water on the stove at low or medium heat. Try to use a pot with two handles so that you can pour it more easily into the toilet later.

Second, you have to pour about a half cup of dish soap into the toilet and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Just the action of the soap itself may free your drains up.

Third, you have to remove the pot of water from the stove before it reaches boiling point. You should be able to tell when it’s time to take the pot off the stove by watching the bottom of the pot starting to gradually make little bubbles.

Fourth, you have to pour the water quickly down the toilet. Be careful not to splash hot water on yourself! Also, if you notice that the toilet is almost overflowing, you should try a plunger after you let the dishwashing liquid sit there for about 10 minutes, so that some of the water can go down.

Fifth, you have to plunge the toilet several times more if the clog doesn’t immediately unclog. Place the plunger over the drain hold and push it and pull it a few times, while ensuring that you maintain the seal.

If that doesn’t work, repeat the process with the dishwashing liquid and the hot water once more. If you see that the clog still remains, it’s time to give us a call.
